Good afternoon everyone.

I am new to the game but used to play PBM games years ago. I thought I would give it another go and see how I get on. I like the idea of starting in a brand new game so I will be putting in a bid to join game 117.

I just wondered if anyone had any advice they could pass on before I get started with Ultimate Europe? :)

I'm a beginner myself but I guess try sticking to traditional common formations to start with and not do anything outlandish for now and select training that looks like it would logically work together, that's how I'm approaching my first turn anyway.

if you want to get off to a good start pick a formation that best suits the squad you begin with ,otherwise you could lose half the season trying to buy players to fit a different one.

don't be drawn into going with big name players just for that reason only, check the rule book and go by individual stats that best suit the positions used.

tactics regardless of how good your team is can make or break your team don't pick things that cancel each other out ,by that i mean dont ask your defenders to defend deep and then play out of defense at the same time.
or playing wingbacks with right or left midfielders as they will just get in each others way.

Thanks for those posts.

I have read the rulebook a couple of times now and it is starting to make sense. A lot of it will depend what my squad looks like but I am happy to give it time and try and build something decent with my team.

The reserve and youth aspect of the game looks interesting. Also the fact that you can scout pretty much every team in the world!

117 will be a HFG (Hard Format Game), which means that it will have the best managers that have played UE battling it out so it will be a challenge. But im sure your up for it and you may even be a dark horse.

There are loads of little hidden tips in the rule book as well.

Finally, buy a season ticket after a couple of weeks if you think you like the game, as it allows you to manage your res/youth teams and improve your squad as a whole.

Thanks Fadi.

Yeah, I will definitely be buying a season ticket so I can have a look at my reserves and youth. You never know, I might even be able to bring them some success!

Success brings you extra funds.

So its always good to manage them, weather your a small team that needs to money or a large team because your starting in debt.

I wouldn't consider myself more than an average UE player but from experience I would give you this advice

DON'T TAKE ADVICE YET (contradicting myself lol)

Work out who you can trust, don't rush into deals, make sure you're happy with what you are about to agree, before agreeing! Deals will fall through, some your fault, some others fault, some because your directors are tight fisted, try not to let this ruin your game experience! remember it's only a game and life will go on outside UE (Blasphemy), nobody can predict how many window lickers or crayon crunchers will be in this game so try to prepare yourself for the worst, then anything else will be a bonus!

Everyone playing will be out to better their OWN team, this is an important thing to remember, if you're losing your best players in a deal, make sure you're getting a great deal in return, the forum vultures are frightening :D

All the best in this game

Thanks Nova.

Don't worry. I do have a bit of experience in these types of games so I know what to look out for. :)

Not really buddy been playing since game 100 with some really good guys, but throughout the games I've played in I've seen so many new players leave after a few weeks! The "great" advice from some of the lads to the new guys has been embarrassing, that's why I'm trying to get these new managers to suss out who they can trust before jumping straight in!

Some of the "best" quotes I've witnessed ...

"He was great in previous games after season 3"
"I'm giving you 2 future gems for your player (best player and SA), you're getting the best from this deal"
After agreeing a deal via PM "don't tell anyone about our deal mate, they'll only try and ruin it"

I'm not naive, I know everyone is out to better their own teams as am I, but sometimes it's at the cost of losing managers from the game :/

Well, I'm not sure if I am going to have any players that people want so will probably have a pretty quiet first season getting used to the game and trying to pick up a few decent players.

Hi mate. How are things?

Really looking forward to this. I think I am going to post it again in OTF and see if anyone else fancies joining. I have already convinced a couple of my cousins to join.

Have you played this before?

really surprised more people from OTF didn't want to join, maybe the nostalgia is sucking us in! I had 3 games in 116 but once i knew this game was starting i didnt really bother with it, this game looks like it's going to be quality, i just wish games lasted a bit longer (like 10 seasons) than you could really plan for the future, but i suppose eu need to make money, if they could somehow get the best of both worlds they would have the perfect game.

I suppose if a season takes 6 months then 10 seasons would be 5 years! Probably a bit too much for some people. I am hoping to play for a few seasons because I would like to build up my youth team and unearth some future stars.

Simple advice : don't sell for cash unless your in a lot of debt. Cash is useless.

Perhaps but selling your players so you can have enough cash for an EOS bid sounds a bit mad to me. In HFG I would only sell if in debt. Cash is useless ( unless your in debt )

Interesting. I assume EOS is End Of Season. What would you be bidding for then?

It sounds like swap deals are the way forward?
